We are looking to recruit a Software Quality Engineer for the Aer Lingus Technology team as part of IAG Tech. Software Quality Engineers have a pivotal role to play in the technology team in Aer Lingus. We are seeking a talented and motivated individual, who will be a proactive and collaborative member of a product team and will nurture the agile testing principles within that team. This candidate will be a quality evangelist with a strong agile tester mindset focused on collaboration with all stakeholders within the product team to ensure high quality, high value solutions are delivered for the business. They will work in close collaboration with all scrum team members ensuring a shift-left approach to quality and will also work closely with our automation engineers defining the optimum automation strategy for the team’s deliverables.


Our ideal candidate has extensive experience working within an agile environment defining the test strategies for delivery in collaboration with all team members. This candidate ideally has a technical background, is a strong analytical thinker and has a proven ability to analyse complex solutions and define the appropriate test strategy.

Your role:

To be successful in this role you will be required to;

Work with the Product Owner & team to define the User Story Acceptance Criteria and the Definition of Done, to ensure testability for the features within a release
Define the test strategy for those features, in collaboration with the various team members, to ensure a collective quality ownership:
With the Automation Engineers, to identify the appropriate test scenarios for automation.
With the Developers, to get full transparency on the unit test coverage for a feature and to ‘show’ how a feature will be tested.
Analyze the areas identified for your test scope within the user stories and translate them into high level test scenarios in collaboration with the team e.g. use of Google Analytics, VoG input, key user journeys. 
Identification of the relevant test types and the approaches to optimize the testing activities (Exploratory testing utilizing Test Charters etc.)
Plan and execute the identified manual functional testing activities for in scope phases
Ensure the team have transparent quality reporting, to demonstrate the automated test coverage at each level, the execution results and easy to read outputs
Active issue management in coordination within the team, communicating the cause, effect and impact of those issues to the Product Owner, who can then prioritize appropriately
Participate proactively in all the Scrum Ceremonies e.g. become the voice of quality in estimation and backlog sessions, collaborate with the team to identify and implement improvements via sprint retros, recognizing when other team members need assistance etc.
Recognize areas for improvement across process, tooling and ways of working, in or outside your team, to identify quality approaches that can benefit your team and others.
Mentor and coach new team members
Continuously challenge how the team can improve the quality of the deliverables at the earliest possible point of the SDLC with a Shift Left mentality
Ensure any newly developed features are Accessibility (WCAG) compliant

To be considered for the role of Software Quality Engineer, candidates must meet the following:

Your qualifications & key criteria:

Bachelor’s Degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science or equivalent formal training
4+ years’ relevant industry experience
Experience analysing complex solutions and devising the appropriate test strategies for these solutions
Experience working in an Agile environment and working closely with developers and automation engineers
Experience testing responsive applications across Desktop and Mobile Devices
Experience working in close collaboration with automation engineers to define the appropriate automation strategy for specific features
Experience with JIRA or other defect tracking tools
Experience with test case management tools such as Zephyr
Experience with a variety of different approaches to functional testing: Automation, Exploratory, Scripted etc. 
Keen interest in sharing knowledge among peers to ensure high quality code deliverables & practices
A proactive, self-motivated personality with a strong commitment to learning and willing to expand their skillset to take on more technical activities within the team
Ability to work closely with designers, product owners and developers
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable to present technical information to a non-technical audience
Fluent in English, both written and spoken
Impeccable written & oral communication skills
Eligible to live and work in the EU
Hold a current unrestricted worldwide passport
Able to pass a strict airport security vetting procedure which includes a 5 year background check* or be in possession of a current airside pass for the airport this position is based in


Desirable criteria:

Hands on experience with Automation frameworks such as Selenium
Programming experience with Java or Groovy
Experience in Build Automation and Testing tools, such as Jenkins, Gradle, SonarQube etc.
AWS Certification and/or experience of solutioning for Cloud
Knowledge of Accessibility Standards for Websites and Accessibility testing experience

*If you are a non Irish Citizen, you will need to be in possession of a current police disclosure certificate from your home country. If you have lived outside the Republic of Ireland for more than 6 months you will also be required to hold a current police disclosure certificate from that country/countries
